A Florida police officer who was shot in the head during a standoff and in a coma is showing signs of progressions, according to his wife.
Orlando police Officer Kevin Valencia's wife, Meghan Valencia, said her husband has responded to hand squeezes and has given a thumbs-up sign.
She said the officer will be transferred sometime this week to a rehab center in Atlanta.
Valencia, who previously worked for the Doral Police Department, was shot earlier in May while responding to a domestic disturbance call from a woman.
The woman said her boyfriend had a gun and was holding their four children hostage in their apartment.
The four children and the boyfriend were found fatally shot after a nearly daylong standoff with police.
The Orlando Police Department said the boyfriend shot the children and then himself.
