Rescue Crews At Scene Where Plane Crashed Near Havana, Cuba

A plane crashed Friday afternoon after taking off from Jose Marti International Airport in Havana, Cuba. 

Cuban state-run television is reporting that the plane was a Boeing 737, but that has not been confirmed.

Local news stations say the plane was headed for Holguin on the eastern side of the island and crashed near a high school campus.

A photo taken from an airport terminal and posted to Twitter shows a large plume of smoke in the distance.

No other information was immediately available.
