It's National Ride Your Bike to School Day

It's National Ride Your Bike to School Day and experts are urging parents and kids not to forget their helmet.

The event is about fun, getting the whole family moving and it's also about helmet safety.  Jonathan Hooshmand with the University of Miami's BikeSafe Program says it's important parents lead by example.

"If the kids see you and you don't want to wear a helmet or don't like wearing it for whatever reason, the kids are eventually going to see the same thing," said Hooshmand.

He says children aged 0 to 19 are at the highest risk for traumatic brain injuries.  According the the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 64,993 of those head injuries seen in hospital emergency rooms are from cycling.
