At Least 12 Sinkholes In Ocala Are Forcing Residents To Leave Their Homes

A number of sinkholes that have opened up the Earth in Ocala have forced residents to evacuate their homes.

Authorities say that at least a dozen sinkholes have opened since last Wednesday, and that eight families were forced to leave their homes. American Red Cross volunteers have been helping those displaced residents.

The sinkholes have been forming around a retention pool, officials say.

City leaders are still trying to figure out how to fill in the sinkholes and stop them from developing again. Engineers are continuing to run a series of tests to secure all remaining sinkholes.

Officials expect this to be done by the end of the week.
