Florida High School Student, 17, Shot By 19-Year-Old, Police Say

Authorities say a Florida high school student was shot by a 19-year-old Friday morning.

A 17-year-old student from Forest High School, near Ocala, was reportedly shot in the ankle.

Witnesses say the shooter, who was first described as a fellow student but is now being called a "non-student" according to the Associated Press, fired at a closed classroom door, dropped his weapon and tried to hide, but was later arrested.

The school was placed on lockdown following the shooting, and several law enforcement agencies were on the scene.

The student victim was taken to a local hospital.

Details about who the shooter is, and a motive is not yet clear, except for the fact that the shooter is reported as being 19-years-old.

The shooting happened minutes before the start of a national school walkout, to protest against gun violence.
