IRS Tax Filing Website Goes Down... On Tax Day

Just in time for the already hectic Tax Day deadline, the IRS website to make payments partially crashed on Tuesday afternoon.

The IRS did not have an immediate explanation for the failure. But it said on its website that its online payment system became unavailable at 2:50 A.M. ET on Tuesday.

IRS Acting Commissioner David Kautter testified during a House Oversight Hearing Tuesday that a number of systems were down and that they were working to resolve the issue.

Tuesday is the last day for taxpayers to file their tax returns. It's also the final day to pay any additional money owed for 2017.
