An outbreak of hand, foot and mouth disease has forced officials to close the Florida A&M University Developmental Research School for sanitation.
The K-through-12 school is closed through Monday.
According to WTXL-TV in Tallahassee, the school closed Thursday afternoon when school leaders received a report of a student contracting the virus.
Hand, foot and mouth disease causes:
- Sore throat
- Blisters in the mouth
- Rashes
It is not considered life-threatening, but is highly contagious.
People can catch the virus from contact with other people and objects like door handles.
