South Florida's 42nd Annual Carbonell Awards Takes Place Tonight

Monday night is South Florida's version of the Tony Awards.

The 42nd annual Carbonell Awards will be awarded during a ceremony at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts located at 201 S.W. 5th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.

Theatrical performances up for awards have been evaluated on their opening weekend by a recommendation panel. Those recommendations determine if the show continues to the next level of consideration.

If so, a judging panel evaluates those programs and then makes the Carbonell Award nominations, and subsequently determines the winners.

Along with honoring theatrical achievement, two Marjory Stoneman Douglas High students will perform their original song "Shine" they wrote in the wake of the tragedy at their school.
