A 1-year-old boy is dead after being found inside of a car parked at a shopping plaza near Bird Road and 97th Avenue where witnesses said his mother works.
Authorities say the mother reportedly went to work around 9 a.m. Wednesday, parked the car in the back and, at about 12:30 p.m., witnesses heard loud screams and commotion.
A pharmacist, who was working next door, called 911 when he saw what was happening.
Miami-Dade police say that the child was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
It was a hot day Wednesday with temperatures in the mid-80s. Temperatures inside the car could’ve reached up to 100°. Police have not said how long the little boy was left in the car- nor if any charges will be filed.
Witnesses said the mother was devastated and screaming. She said something along the lines of "because of work – this happened."
Miami-Dade Police will be continuing their investigation.
