Tampa Gun Show Sees Record Attendance Amid Gun Reform Debate

Despite gun reform being a hot button issue right now, a record number of people showed up to a gun show in Tampa this past weekend.

Organizers say about 7,000 people attended the Tampa Gun Show at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

Gov. Rick Scott announced a plan on Friday to keep guns away from dangerous and violent people, as well as a $50 million proposal for mental health initiatives.

Most of the people at the gun show agrees that violent and mentally ill individuals should not have guns, according to news outlet WFLA.

“It’s no different than owning a vehicle,” Victoria Burdick said. “The vehicle itself is not dangerous, it’s who’s behind the vehicle. The same is with guns. The gun itself is just metal. It’s nothing. But you put it in the wrong hands and now it’s something.”

But the question is – can the government keep guns from falling into those wrong hands?

Next month's gun show in Fort Lauderdale was canceled after city leaders requested it be called off in the name of the Douglas High victims.
