Assistant Coach Identified At Shooting Victim, Hailed A Hero

An assistant football coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has been identified as one of the victims of Wednesday's mass school shooting. Now, Aaron Feis is being hailed a hero.

MSDHS head coach Willis May confirmed Thursday that assistant coach  Feis was killed in the shooting.

"It is with great sadness that our football family has learned about the death of Aaron Feis," the football team's Twitter account posted early Thursday. "He was our assistant football coach and security guard. He selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero and he will forever be in our hearts and memories."

Feis, who also serves as a school security guard, responded to an initial call on the school’s security walkie-talkies as the tragic incident unfolded. When asked if the loud noises were a bunch of firecrackers, Feis said no.

“I heard Aaron say, ‘No, that is not firecrackers.’ That’s the last I heard of him,” Douglas football coach Willis May said, according to a report by the Sun Sentinel.

Social media posts from teammates also said Feis took “several bullets” while shielding other students.
