Hollywood police say a local family was terrorized during a recent, violent home invasion.
Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said the suspect, 49-year-old Robert Young, knocked on the door of a home in the 4500 block of West Park Road about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
He allegedly told one of the residents, a 68-year-old woman, that his cat had run into her backyard and asked her to unlock the gate so he could retrieve the animal, Grossman said.
Young then asked the woman for tuna fish for the cat and once inside the home, Young tied her up, along with her brother, Grossman said.
The female victim said Young beat and kicked her brother and threatened to set him on fire. The woman eventually escaped and ran to a neighbor's home for help.
Grossman said Young stole a number of items from the home and fled on a bicycle.
Both victims were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Young has since been shot and killed. He was identified as the robber in a second crime that took place very early the next morning (2 a.m. Monday) in Pinecrest.
Young allegedly broke into the home of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent. That agent responded to noises of broken glass by opening fire on the intruder, thus killing Young.
