Valentine's Day is just one week away, and no matter what your relationship status, you could end up shelling out big bucks to celebrate.
The National Retail Federation (NFR) reports consumers who plan to celebrate will spend an average of $143.56 on:
- Flowers
- Jewelry
- Candy
- Clothes
- Other gifts
That's up from just $136.57 last year.
A separate report from WalletHub found about 35 percent of couples are planning a night out on Valentine's Day, but the NFR says 25 percent of consumers who aren't planning a romantic evening have an alternative in mind (like buying something for themselves, or getting together with family and friends).
