These Eagles Players Have Ties To South Florida

Well, the Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champs – and we'd like to think that it's thanks, in part, to a number of players with roots in the Sunshine State.

Eight players on the Eagles’ active roster for Sunday’s win have ties to Florida, either as natives of the state, having played college football here, or spending time as Miami Dolphins.

The affiliated players include:

  • Running back Jay Ajayi, who was traded earlier this season to the Eagles
    • Ajayi had nine carries for 57 yards Sunday
  • Linebacker and former Miami Dolphin Dannell Ellerbe
    • Ellerbe started the game for Philadelphia on defense
  • Cornerback Patrick Robinson - former Miami Gulliver Prep and FSU star
    • Three tackles in the game
    • Robinson was one of four former Noles on the Philadelphia roster
  • The Florida Gators had two alums on the roster – including tight end Trey Burton
    • Burton threw a touchdown pass on fourth down in the first half on a trick play

The Miami Hurricanes, who hold the record for most former players who have gone on to play in the Super Bowl, did not have a player on the Eagles roster.
