Former NFL Linebacker On Trial For Defrauding Govt. Of $20M In Miami

A former NFL player who became a successful businessman is on trial in Miami for allegedly defrauding the government out of $20-million.

Monty Grow is accused of supplying a Broward County pharmacy with military health care patients and then paying kickbacks to the patients and others.

On the other hand, “This is a case about a man who lied and cheated to get a bunch of money he didn’t deserve,” prosecutor Kevin Larsen told the jury during opening statements.

“Mr. Grow came up with a pyramid scheme of kickbacks to induce these TRICARE beneficiaries to order expensive drugs they really didn’t need.”

A former Chiefs and Jaguars linebacker, Grow's lawyers claim the company's structure was no different than Amway, Herbalife or Mary Kay.
