Police Arrest Man In Connection With Deadly Lauderhill Bus Bench Crash

A man has been arrested in connection to a 2017 crash that killed one person and injured nearly a dozen more at a Lauderhill bus bench.

Andrew Wallace, 23, was arrested Friday. He was charged with one count of vehicular homicide and 13 counts of reckless driving, including two causing serious injury.

Authorities say Wallace was driving a gray Acura TL along State Road 7 southbound when he began drag racing with another vehicle on June 8, 2017.

Surveillance video captured the moments when Wallace's car plowed into a bus bench, killing Helanie Elize, hospitalizing five others, and injuring another five who were treated on scene.

Police are still looking for the second car/driver involved in the alleged drag racing. That vehicle is described as a red Dodge Neon SRT with Florida license plate number HGKS80.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward CrimeStoppers.
