Men Caught Installing Skimming Devices At Marathon Gas Station, Police Say

Aventura Police officers caught two crooks red-handed Wednesday as they tried stealing credit card information at a Marathon gas station.

Surveillance video captured a white van as it pulled up to the Marathon gas station along Biscayne Boulevard.

Two men from the van allegedly pretended to be customers but were actually attempting to install a skimming device on the pump, which can steal credit card information.

Officers at the gas station said they noticed the gas tank was on the opposite side from the pump. That’s when police pulled up and confronted the men.

Police said they found huge oil drums inside their van that could hold over 1,200 gallons of fuel. The vehicle was also outfitted illegally with two fuel bladders, according to authorities.

Police arrested Nelson Diaz and Luis Reyes, both 27.

Officials said the men had skimming devices and re-encoded credit cards with other people’s identities. At the gas station, they were attempting to install one of those skimming devices.

Diaz and Reyes have since been transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
