BSO Deputy Accused Of Aiding Drug Trafficking Operations

A Broward Sheriff’s deputy is accused of helping drug traffickers move large amounts of cocaine and heroin through South Florida.

Forty-seven-year-old Albury Burrows was arrested while on duty at the Port Everglades district, where he allegedly gave a drug organization advice on how to avoid detection and prosecution.

Burrows is an 18-year-veteran of the agency. He is now suspended without pay and facing a total of 10 charges, including racketeering. Bail has been set at $261,000.

“Everyone who wears our uniform swore to serve and protect the residents of Broward County, not abuse their power for a self-serving purpose,” Sheriff Scott Israel said in a statement. “I promised to instill a culture of efficiency and transparency."

In 2011, a jury found Burrows not guilty of grand theft after prosecutors said he stole thousands of dollars in cash that was seized in a drug bust.
