When it comes to the safest cities in America, Fort Lauderdale apparently has absolutely nothing to brag about.
That's right, according to a study by Wallethub, Fort Lauderdale clocks in as a dead ringer for last place when it comes to the safest cities in the nation.
WalletHub examined 182 U.S. cities, including the top 150 cities with the largest populations, during its study. Analysts primarily took a look at:
- Home safety factors
- Community safety factors
- Financial safety factors
- Natural disaster risk factors
- Number of assaults
- Number of hate crimes
- Natural disaster rate
- Law enforcement employees per capita
Number of traffic fatalies
For those eyeing the safest neighborhoods in the nation, the top five include:
- Nashua, New Hamphshire
- South Burlington, Vermont
- Warwick, Rhode Island
- Columbia, Maryland
- Gilbert, Arizona
No Florida cities made the top 20, however, Cape Coral clocked in at 22, Pembroke Pines at 30, Port St. Lucie at 52, and Tallahassee at 70.
Other Florida cities on the list:
- Jacksonville at 95
- Hialeah at 96
- Tampa at 108
- Miami at 144
- Orlando at 176
- And good old Fort Lauderdale in dead last at 182
Florida dominated the rankings (for the worst) when it comes to lowest % of households with emergency savings.
Better luck next time, Florida ---
