The lawyer for a 27-year-old soccer coach accused of running away with a teenage girl says his client wants to return to Florida as soon as possible to face charges.
Rian Rodriguez was taken into custody in suburban Syracuse Friday night on a charge of interference with child custody.
Officials say 17-year-old Caitlyn Frisnia sneaked out of her home in Fort White, Florida, on Nov. 25. According to an arrest affidavit, Frisnia allegedly told a friend that she was scared to leave the state and didn't know how to get out of running away with Rodriguez, "and if she did he would mess up her life."
The arrest affidavit also revealed Frisina and the high school soccer coach exchanged messages of a sexual nature on the social media platform SnapChat. The messages were recovered from Frisina's phone, which the teen performed a factory reset before leaving it behind in her bedroom.
Her parents flew to Syracuse to get her Saturday.
Officials at Fort White High School suspended Rodriguez.
He had a court hearing Monday to determine if he'd be extradited. Attorney Charles Keller says Rodriguez has consented to return to Florida. He's being held in jail until Florida authorities pick him up.
