An 11-year-old Florida boy will spend the next 21 days on home detention after police say he stole his neighbor's car and crashed it in Pompano Beach.
The boy appeared in court Monday morning. The judge sentenced him to 21 days of house arrest with the use of an electronic monitoring bracelet.
Authorities say the boy stole his disabled neighbor's car last week and crashed it into a fence on Northwest 13th Street.
Deputies said the boy abandoned the car after the crash and ran to Charles R. Drew Elementary School, where staff members called his mother.
He was arrested on charges of grand theft and leaving the scene of a crash.
Another court date has been scheduled for next month.
