DREAM Act Protest Planned For FIU Campus

Florida International University students are expected to walk out of the classroom this Thursday to demand Congress pass a clean DREAM Act.

The walkout is scheduled to take place from 12 - 1 p.m.

As per a Facebook event that promotes the event:

We are demanding a Clean DREAM Act that would provide a legal pathway to citizenship for DACA and TPS recipients nationwide. Without this legislation, there is no feasible way to obtain a legal status in the only country we call home. We are not hiding in the shadows anymore and we won't be used as bargaining chips to criminalize other immigrants and our own parents.

Students and faculty at Florida International University would also benefit from a Clean DREAM Act because they are surrounded by hundreds of DACA and TPS recipients, including their peers and loved ones. FIU takes great pride in welcoming immigrants and opening the door of opportunity for everyone with a dream.

WALK OUT and meet at the GC Lawns to show support for a legislation that protects DREAMers and the rest of the immigrant community.

They want a legal pathway to citizenship for DACA and TPS recipients.

According to the Facebook event, more than 50 students plan on attending the staged walkout.

This is a part of a national movement with today being labeled a day of action in Washington, DC.
