FL Inmate To Face Execution Wednesday For Brutal Double Murder

A Florida inmate who was convicted of brutally murdering two men in 1991 is scheduled to be executed this Wedneaday.

Patrick Hannon, 53, will be the third Florida inmate to be executed since August.

The state resumed executions in August after changing the death penalty sentencing law, which now requires a unanimous jury vote for a death sentence.

The new sentencing law doesn't affect Hannon's case because the state's high court ruled that those decided before 2002 were not eligible for relief.

Hannon was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder for the slayings of Brandon Snider and Robert Carter.

After breaking into Snider's Tampa apartment, Hannon slashed Sniders's throats and fatally shooting Carter six times. Prosecutors said the attacks were motivated by Snider's vandalizing of Acker's sister's apartment.

Hannon had asked for a new sentencing phase in light of the Florida death sentencing changes. His requests were denied.

He is scheduled to die by lethal injection at Florida State Prison at 6 p.m.
