The future of the former American Express building in Plantation has been decided...
A developer is planning to build more than 550 homes, as well as additional retail and restaurant space, over the 25 acre campus that was built in the 1970s.
AMEX recently moved into new space just down the road in Sunrise.
Plantation Midtown Square will be built on the former site of the American Express building at the southeast corner of North Pine Island Road and Cleary Boulevard.
The new development will include:
- 94 townhomes within 22 buildings.
- Each with two-three bedrooms and two-car garages
- 481 rental apartments within two five-story towers
- One-three bedrooms
- Average $2,000 per month in rent
- 11,540 square feet of restaurant space
- 10,000 square feet of retail
Plantation 25 LLC purchased the American Express building in April 2014 for $33.5 million, according to Broward property records.
The site plan for Plantation Midtown Square is expected to go before the City Council in November.
