New Bill Would Offer Free Tuition For Students At Florida Colleges

A new proposal would pay full tuition for many students at Florida state colleges.

Florida Democratic Rep. Shevrin Jones filed bill HB-181 Monday, which would create the Sunshine Scholarship Program.

If passed, the program would pay 100 percent of tuition costs at state colleges for students whose household incomes are $125,000 or less. Students in the program would have to live and work in the state for an unspecified period of time after finishing school.

The legislature will begin considering the proposal when the next session begins in January.
