South Florida Tolls To Be Reinstated Thursday

Since local gas supplies returned to normal, and prices began to decrease, the big question on every South Florida driver's mind has been 'when will the tolls return?!'.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the answer is Thursday.

Tolls on Florida's Turnpike, roads and bridges will be reinstated at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

Just yesterday, Governor Rick Scott tweeted that "tolls remain suspended as we focus on recovery efforts. We will keep all Floridians updated."

The state's roadway tolls were originally suspended on Sept. 5, as Hurricane Irma approached the area, to allow residents to escape the storm.

Even with the reinstatement, all tolls south of the interchange with State Road 874 on the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike will remain suspended to assist Monroe County residents with recovery efforts.
