Residents, Business Owners Not Allowed In SIB Until Further Notice

No one, including residents and business owners, will be permitted into Sunny Isles Beach until further notice, authorities said in a news release Monday. 

The city was placed on lockdown following Hurricane Irma, after the storm swept through South Florida and left behind extensive damage.

Accordint to Sunny Isles Beach officials, the city suffered severe damage to power lines, poles and other large fixtures. Police said the roads are also dangerously littered with debris.

The lockdown could last for several days, according to the news release. 

Only first responders and repair officials will be granted entry into the city.

Eighty-five percent of residents evacuated the city ahead of the storm.
