Reser’s Fine Foods recalled "select lots of Gyro Family Kits from Sprouts stores" on Monday (December 9) due to a "potential Salmonella contamination of the cucumbers within the tzatziki sauce."

According to the United States Food & Drug Administration, Salmonella "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, frail or elderly people, and other people with weakened immune systems." In healthy individuals, symptoms present as "fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain."

Affected products include the Gyro Family Kit with "UPC 20594800000" and "Use by Dates 12/29/24-01/07/25."

The recalled kits were distributed to 24 states including Sprouts locations in Florida. The cucumbers were the only contaminated portion of the gyro kits, but no part of the product is safe for consumption.

While there have been no illnesses associated with the recall as of December 10, Health officials are urging customers who purchased the possibly contaminated kits "not to consume them and dispose of them or return them to their local store for a full refund."

Health officials have also encouraged individuals to clean and sanitize and containers and surfaces that the recalled product might have touched to avoid the spread of bacteria.
