Miami, FIU Postpone Weekend Football Due To Possible Irma Impact

Both the University of Miami and Florida International University have postponed this upcoming weekend's football games due to potential impacts brought on by Hurricane Irma.

Both teams were originally slated to play on Saturday.

The UM Hurricanes were scheduled to leave Friday for the game against Arkansas State. The two teams do not share the same bye week, so the game will likely not be made up.

Associated Press writer Tim Reynolds tweeted Wednesday morning, UM Athletic Director Blake James' reaction to the decision to cancel this weekend's travels and contest:

Similarly, FIU announced Tuesday night that their game vs. Alcorn State will not take place as scheduled.

The move came hours after it was announced that the NFL’s Miami Dolphins would also not be playing at home on Sunday to start their season.

Officials at FIU have not announced if the game has been postponed, canceled or will be played at another location.
