Gov. Scott Activates National Guard In Anticipation Of Irma

With Hurricane Irma slated to hit South Florida as early as this weekend, Governor Rick Scott is activating 100 members of the Florida National Guard.

At a briefing Tuesday morning, Scott said the Guard members will be assisting with preparedness. Another 7,000 guard members have been ordered by Scott to report for duty Friday.

"Hurricane Irma is a major and life-threatening storm and Florida must be prepared," said Scott. "I have continued to be briefed by the Florida Division of Emergency Management on Hurricane Irma and current forecast models have Florida in Irma’s path – potentially impacting millions of Floridians."

The governor urged every family to get ready for Irma by having enough supplies on hand, including water, food and medicines.
