Woman Killed, Man Injured During Hit-And-Run Near Walmart In Homestead

A hit and run near a Walmart in Homestead leaves one woman dead. 

A married couple, each riding their own motorcycle, were hit by a driver pulling out of the Walmart near 288th Street around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to officials. 

The driver allegedly fled the scene. 

The couple was airlifted to Jackson South Community Hospital. 

The man is in stable condition. The woman, 48-year-old Reina Castaneda, did not survive.

Officers tracked the suspect, identified at 80-year-old Miguel Ortiz, down to a nearby parking lot shortly after the accident. 

Ortiz is charged with leaving the scene of a deadly accident involving a death.
