Off-Duty Florida Deputy Saves Couple Trapped Inside Burning Car

A Florida couple was rescued from their burning car by an off-duty deputy who just happened to take a different route home.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says there were no serious injuries due to the quick actions taken by Willie Finklea that saved Neil Cook, 64, and Claudia Cook,65.

According to a Facebook post by the sheriff's office, the Cooks were traveling in their car Sunday afternoon when they experienced problems and pulled to the side of the road.

The couple then noticed smoke coming from their car. They tried to escape but the doors and windows malfunctioned and the couple was trapped, the post said.

Off-duty Deputy Finklea drove past the flames just in time, pulled over and acted quickly, shooting and kicking out a window.

The Cooks were rescued from the burning vehicle without injury.
