What's New on the Menu for Broward County Public Schools

Broward County Public Schools have new meals on the lunch menu.

The district says they try to add healthy options the kids like.  A hummus entree, Asian kale salad and edamame vegetable blend are a few of the new choices students will see during the 2017-2018 school year.  Nutritionist, Darlene Moppert, with Broward County Public Schools says they've also made a menu change based on the request of parents.

"We have a hormone free chicken leg.  We've had chicken legs before, but we got a call from our parents, less hormones, less antibiotics in the food so as we are able, we're looking at introducing more of these types of foods into our menu," said Moppert.

In addition to lunch, Moppert says there will be new grab and go breakfast items for students.

The district will continue to serve farm to school vegetables from local farmers and say they add new menu items throughout the school year.
