Miami-Dade School Board To Sue Over Controversial New Education Law

The Miami-Dade County School board decides to move forward with legal action against the state over the new education law.

The board unanimously voted to take legal action and challenge specific provisions found in House Bill 7069 during their meeting Wednesday.  The board added a measure to the item, they'd like lawmakers to hold a special legislative session on education.  Board member Lubby Navarro says the session would send a clear message to the state.

"We can't do this and I think that's where we are.  We have come to that conclusion saying this is going to be difficult for our public education system," said Navarro.

Under the new education law, the district will have to give 23 million dollars in 2018 to charter schools.
