Key Largo Woman Hiding In Truck Tells Officer She Was "Looking At Stars"

A Key Largo woman found hiding in the bed of a pickup truck after a traffic stop told police she "was just looking at the stars because it was a nice night out."

Monroe County Sheriff's officers say 25-year-old Bobbi Mahlan was arrested in Plantation Key early Monday on a charge of resisting an officer without violence.

According to an arrest report, a deputy driving south on U.S. Highway 1 noticed a Chevrolet pickup truck coming from under the Snake Creek Bridge.

When the deputy initiated a traffic stop, he noticed a woman lying in the bed of the truck. He allegedly asked the woman for her name and why she was hiding. She identified herself as Kristina Lynn Haurun from Missouri and claimed to be looking at the stars, according to the report.

The deputy was unable to find anyone by that name during a records check, but a dispatcher advised him to check the database for Mahlan, who is a known associate of the driver.

Mahlan's driver's license photograph matched the woman in the bed of the truck. The deputy also learned that Mahlan had an active arrest warrant for a battery charge.

Mahlan told the deputy she gave him a fake name because she had a warrant.

Mahlan was booked into jail, where she was being held in lieu of a $4,000 bond.
