New Animal Abuse Photo, Same Perpetrator As Shark Dragging Clip

A new animal abuse photo featuring one of the men in the now infamous shark dragging video has surfaced.

This new image depicts a man holding a spotted eagle ray on a dock. When it was posted on social media, the man wrote “#GetTheHarpoon” and “#PrimeMakoBait.”

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says the Eagle Ray is a protected species and holding one up is illegal. The agency is investigating.

An Everipedia page alleges that 21-year-old Michael Wenzel, of Palmetto, from the shark-dragging video, has been involved in a laundry list of similar animal abuse incidents.

The page also claims to inculpate a friend of Wenzel’s, Robert Lee “Bo” Benac. Benac’s mother, Betsy Benac, is the Commissioner of Manatee County, and Wenzel’s father is planning manager.

Since that shark clip was released, it has sparked outrage, but so far no charges have been filed.
