A former Putnam County Sheriff's officer is facing DUI charges following an arrest in Volusia County.
Video of Jeffrey Hardy's July 24th failed field sobriety test was released Wednesday.
In the body-cam video, Hardy playfully tries to give a deputy a fist pound, and the deputy forcefully asks him not to do that.
The footage shows Hardy barefoot, failing a field sobriety test and refusing a breathalyzer. He also claims in the video that he "wrote the book" on DUI testing, but a deputy had to explain what to do, and Hardy kept claiming he was standing in his driveway.
Earlier that evening, officers responded to a fight Hardy was involved in with his girlfriend at his home. Deputies had warned Hardy then not to get behind the wheel.
Hardy was the Putnam County sheriff for eight years and a law enforcement officer more than 24 years.
Hardy was the sheriff of Putnam County during one of the county's biggest cases: the 2009 disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings. The case remains unsolved.
Hardy served two terms as sheriff and left office in January.
Hardy is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 5.
