Hey, guys, if you're itching to end your reproductive abilities, but are worried about missing out on sharing the experience with your closest friends, fear no more! According to The Wall Street Journal, brosectomies are a thing now.
Vasectomies are more common than you think, the American Urological Association points out, adds that the procedure is faster and safer than female tubal ligation. It's also reversible.
However, we won't knock the fact that there's always room for improvement... and for a few thousand dollars a piece, men can get a $500 vasectomy, snacks or a steak dinner, top shelf liquor, and a club-like recovery lounge where they can watch sports with similarly recovering pals.
Urologists currently offering this group occasion says the setting allows men more comfortable. WSJ quotes Dr. Turek, a urologist who recalls "One group, friends since college, had vasectomies together, and they 'took fewer pain pills, felt better faster and returned to work earlier than the average, go-it-alone-out-on-the-plank, tube-tied patient.'"
After a few hours of R&R, the patients are released the same day, although they're not able to drive if they've had any strong pills or alcohol.
And these outings are really gaining some traction.
The University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City has run a March Madness promotion for the past three years. It offers a vasectomy package that includes a Utah Jazz basketball ticket giveaway, goody bags and basketball-shaped ice packs.
This past year, the promotion's surgeons performed more than three times as many vasectomies in March compared with the average number done in the other months, according to the health center’s internal marketing data.
A U.S. survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found most women who rely on vasectomies for birth control have as many children as they or their partner want prior to the procedure.
A vasectomy is faster, safer and less expensive than a common sterilization procedure for women called tubal ligation, and the steak and sips offer a new incentive for men to get snipped with their bros.
