South Florida Venezuelans Vote Opposition To Constitution Referendum Plans

Venezuelans in South Florida, along with millions of others across the world, turned out to Sunday vote to decide whether or not to back President Nicolas Maduro’s referendum to elect a National Constituent Assembly.

More than 7.1 million people voted in opposition of Maduro's plans to rewrite the constitution.

In South Florida, every Venezuelan who turned 18 before June 14th and/or is enrolled in the Electoral Register was able to vote.

A July 30th vote to elect members of a special assembly to rewrite Venezuela's 1999 constitution has been set by Maduro. The opposition says the vote is structured to pack the constitutional assembly with supporters and eliminate checks on Maduro's power.

The Maduro administration says they will not recognize the results of the non-binding resolution.
