Dog Dies After Being Left In 115 Degree Car, Owner Arrested In Daytona

A 65-year-old woman who lives in her car is facing animal cruelty charges after her dog died in that vehicle while she was in a Daytona Beach hospital.

A security guard at Halifax Hospital spotted the car Sunday with cracked windows and the pug inside with food and water.

The guard says he checked on the dog again 30 minutes later and called animal control when he learned the owner, 65-year-old Gloria Daniels was being admitted to the hospital.

But when police detectives arrived, the dog was already dead.

Daniels was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

Police say Daniels had just moved to Florida from Illinois and was living in her car with her dog. She went to the hospital with chest pains Sunday.

Temperatures inside the car soared to more than 115 degrees, according to authorities.

And while Gloria Daniels told them she was in the hospital for an hour, an animal control officer says it was about three hours.
