Study Finds Warmer States Will Take Biggest Hit From Climate Change

A new study finds as climate changes, warmer states like ours, will suffer the most.

In the new report in the journal science researchers looked at the economic impact climate change could have on the U.S. in the upcoming decades.  In all, they found for every degree rise in temperature, our country could face .7 percent of gross domestic product loss every year.

Study co-author Bob Kopp says the impacts are greater in warmer places like Miami-Dade County, who would face a loss of 10% or more of G.D.P.

"In Florida, for example, it's really too warm to see any reduction in heating energy to speak of or any reduction in cold deaths to speak of so all of the impacts of a warming climate are negative," said Kopp.

He says he hopes this study informs communities about the need for climate change mitigation.
