During a visit to Florida's Kennedy Space Center Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence pledged in a speech that the U.S. will continue to explore space -- promising to send a manned mission to Mars.
Pence said, quote, "Our nation will return to the moon and we will put American boots on the face of Mars."
President Trump issued an executive order last Friday reviving the National Space Council with Pence as chairman.
The council was established in 1989 by former President George H.W. Bush. It was disbanded in 1993.
Pence also promised in his speech to NASA workers that our nation, and American astronauts, will remain at the forefront of space exploration.
