Arrest Made In Pompano Beach Mosque Threat

After a threatening call was placed to a local mosque, Broward Sheriff's Deputies have found the man who is responsible and taken him into custody.

The call was placed before Thursday evening's Ramadan service at the Islamic Center of South Florida in Pompano Beach with the menacing voice on the other end talking about blowing up the mosque, which forced an evacuation.

Broward Sheriff's Deputies swept the building and did not find any explosives but did find that the phone had caller identification, which investigators used to easily trace the source of the call.

Once they went to the home in Sunrise where the number is listed, they found 38 year old Shawkat Mzayek who confessed to making the call and was placed under arrest.

Mzayek was charged with making a false report of a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction and is being held at the Broward County Jail while awaiting a court appearance.
