A child's caretaker is arrested for doing anything but taking care of a little boy.
Police say they saw a boy wandering alone in the rain around 6 p.m. Wednesday near the WingHouse on 4th Street North in St. Petersberg. The 3-year-old boy was not wearing shoes or a coat, police say.
Undercover detectives stopped the boy from walking into the street and then went looking for his guardian. Police say they found 41-year-old Angelina Vega passed out on the sidewalk near an abandoned building.
Authorities say they attempted to wake Vega using car alarms, but the woman did not budge. When they were finally able to wake up her up, Vega allegedly admitted to drinking beer at the WingHouse where she says she got drunk.
Vega was arrested on one count of child neglect and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
St. Petersburg Police Department officers took the child.
