A Florida driver is dead after being crushed by an oak tree that smashed into his car as he was driving.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says 36-year-old William Vantassel was driving early Thursday on Orient Road North in the Tampa suburb of Hudson. That's when an oak tree broke apart and a large section crushed his Nissan Altima as he drove past.
The tree crushed the roof of the car, and the driver.
Police say the driver died at the scene.
Surrounding roads were closed following the accident.
