Current, Former Sweetwater Officers Under Arrest For Fraud, Racketeering

A current Sweetwater Police Sergeant and former detective on the wrong side of the law. The pair has been arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Miami-Dade Police Department on fraud, conspiracy and racketeering charges.

Sgt. Reny Armando Garcia, 46, and former Detective William Garcia, 42, were arrested Tuesday. William Garcia is currently incarcerated at the U.S. Penitentiary in Pennington, Virginia.

The arrests are part of a larger investigation based on decades of corruption at the Sweetwater Police Department and City. 

The investigation has not revealed criminal wrongdoing of the current Sweetwater police administration.

Reny Garcia is behind held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. William Garcia is expected to be extradited to Miami.

The current Sweetwater chief is fully cooperating, according to reports.
