USF Ranks Top Public Institutions To Generate Patents In America

The University of South Florida set a new record in 2016, ranking fifth among American public universities and 11th among universities worldwide in generating new U.S. patents. 

USF's 114 patents topped other high-ranked Florida schools. Among the patents: 

  • Hormone treatment for age-related hearing loss 
  • Improving security while logging in to websites with sensitive information 
  • A supplement that has been found in research to alleviate symptoms in Angelman syndrome, a devastating neurological disorder

The National Academy of Inventors and Intellectual Property Owners Association says USF joins the University of California System, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, the University of Texas System and the University of Michigan as the top American public institutions in the ranking.
