Former Fort Lauderdale Public Works Employee Behind Bars For Profiting From City's Equipment

A former Public Works Department employee in Fort Lauderdale is facing 14 counts of dealing in stolen property, 11 counts of false ownership of pawned items and one count each of grand theft and official misconduct.

Police say 57-year-old Margate resident Joseph Arena was arrested Thursday.

An investigation began after the city discovered discrepancies in Arena's city-issued purchasing card. Authorities say the investigation found that Arena had sold expensive tools and equipment owned by the city on several occasions.

Arena then allegedly sold the stolen items, pocketing the profit.
