Miami-Dade State Attorney May Face Opposition from Her Own Political Party

Some members of Miami-Dade's Democratic Party are upset with the Miami-Dade State Attorney.  One concern some reportedly have with State Attorney Katherine Fernandez-Rundle is that she protects police officers.

State Attorney Fernandez-Rundle disagrees.

"That is just not true and we have a record since I've been state attorney, we prosecuted over 315 different police and correction officers," said State Attorney Fernandez-Rundle.

Some in Miami-Dade's Democratic Party disagree with State Attorney Fernandez-Rundle's decision not to file charges against correction officers in the 2012 death of inmate Darren Rainey.

"It would be wrong to do that, to charge any of the corrections officers for causing his death when the medical examiner says no that was not the cause of death, there was no burn on his body, she says his death was accidental," said State Attorney Fernandez-Rundle.

Carlos Condarco of the Miami-Dade Democratic Party says during their Tuesday night meeting they'll decide whether or not they're taking a position against State Attorney Fernandez-Rundle.
