Woman Dies Mysteriously While Snorkeling Off Key Largo

A 58-year-old Texas woman is dead after snorkeling off the coast of Key Largo Tuesday.

Cheri Crozier and her husband, vacationing in Key Largo from Austin, Texas, were on a snorkeling trip at Grecian Rocks Tuesday afternoon out of John Pennekamp State Park.

Crozier's husband says at about 1:15 p.m., she began having difficulties while snorkeling, so the couple moved to shallow water. Crozier then told her husband that she wanted to return to the boat, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office

But the difficulties continued. The woman reportedly had trouble swimming -- to the point where vessel employees had to throw the couple a rope and tow them back on board.

Once on the vessel, authorities say Crozier became unconscious and unresponsive, then stopped breathing.

A doctor on board began to perform CPR as the boat returned to shore.

Crozier was taken to Mariner’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

At this time, the specific cause of death is unknown. The Monroe County Sheriff's office says foul play is not suspected.
